February Community Meeting: From tentmaking to pagemaking
AEST
How editing Wikipedia reshaped an academic career
For Dr Sam Bowker, creating a Wikipedia on decorative Egyptian tentmaking changed his life. His research for the page, led to a series of peer-reviewed publications and exhibitions, and ultimately grew into a project that was recognised by the ARC for research impact in 2018. This February community meeting, we will hear about his collaborative work with the Historians of Islamic Art Association on initiatives for Wikipedia editing as a teaching strategy that has resulted in new pages, expanded stubs, and improved existing sites for Islamic art. Dr Bowker is the Sub Dean Graduate Studies (Faculty of Arts & Education) and a Senior Lecturer in Art History and Visual Culture at Charles Sturt University. On next Wednesday 9 February 2022, 7pm AEDT. The zoom link is here.
