Short description Help improve articles of importance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities on Wikipedia! Long description Wikipedia is a free online encyclopedia, it’s the 6th most visited website on the internet. Wikipedia content is created and edited worldwide by volunteer contributors. It has long been acknowledged that there is a lack of diversity among contributors. People are meeting up across the world to help remedy the imbalance and bias in the diversity of voices on Wikipedia. The City of Sydney Library has joined this movement, hosting edit-a-thons to increase and improve content relevant to our diverse communities. Everyone is welcome to join our online edit-a-thon. It will be led by Kirsten Thorpe, Nathan “Mudyi” Sentance, and experienced Wikipedia editors Toby Hudson and Caddie Brain. Kirsten’s professional and research interests relate to Indigenous self-determination in libraries and archives. Nathan works to ensure that the cultural and historical narratives conveyed by memory institutions are being told and controlled by First Nations people. With their help, participants will focus on improving articles of importance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities on Wikipedia. No experience is necessary to join the edit-a-thon. Bring your own laptop or tablet and connect to our free wi-fi or use one of our devices. (A limited number of library devices will be available for use at the event). Participants are encouraged to set up a Wikipedia account prior to the workshop.
