The purpose of the AGM is to receive committee reports from the secretary and treasurer, to receive a statement regarding the chapter's income and expenditure and assets and liabilities, to elect the new committee, and to confirm the minutes from the last AGM. During the week before the AGM, an election is held for all seats on the committee. The results of this election are announced at the AGM and the new committee is confirmed. Only financial members of Wikimedia Australia are eligible to nominate for seats on the committee, vote in the election and participate in the AGM.

A special general meeting can be called by either the committee or 5% of the membership.
