Feedback on draft statement on Indigenous projects

As we come into the International Year of Indigenous Languages, we welcome members’ feedback on this draft statement of principles in the light of Wikimedia Australia’s primary purpose to

promote equality of opportunity to access and participate in the collaborative creation of Free Cultural Works, especially educational works, and works about Australia, its culture, natural environment, and Australian news and media.

==Statement on engagement with Indigenous people and culture==
Wikimedia Australia is committed to engaging respectfully and appropriately with Indigenous people and culture, practising partnership and consensus in pursuing knowledge and documentation of Indigenous culture and history.

For Wikimedia Australia to support or participate in a project or program related to Indigenous people, language, history, or culture, the activity should meet the following criteria:

  • Be welcomed and wanted by the specific Indigenous community/ies in question
  • Engage local Indigenous people or their chosen representatives in the project in a leading role
  • Produce a benefit to the Indigenous community as part of the project

To discuss up to the 22nd February so as to be able to put into newsletter

Treasurer's report

Next meeting the balances, income, expenses and APG tracking will be finalised. Need to audit before this can be done, but have funds to be moving in and out of WMAU accounts in the next week or two. This will allow for the reporting to be done for our Simple APG. If there are any expenses after today but before 1 January 2019, I need to know to factor this in but ideally would like no expenses while auditing, as this creates some balance issues within Xero and making it more complex (also time consuming) to deal with. Rough calculations Simple APG of what has been spent will be done later in the week (Tuesday/Wednesday, not available).
