17:02 <jayvdb> yea, we're starting about now
17:02 <Anthonyhcole> Hi all.I'm in Perth, mostly edit medical content. On an Android device which is hell, so will probably just lurk.
17:02 <jayvdb> hi Anthonyhcole
17:02 <jayvdb> glad you could make it
17:03 <Steven_Zhang> though im driving here
17:03 <jayvdb> you're driving?
17:03 <Steven_Zhang> not at this moment
17:03 <jayvdb> ah, phew
17:03 <Steven_Zhang> but its real confusing
17:03 <lankiveilmob> jayvdb: aye. Steak and beer for lunch :-)
17:03 <jayvdb> hehe
17:04 <Steven_Zhang> i am pushing an empty pram onehanded tho
17:04 <jayvdb> true dedication guys
17:05 <lankiveilmob> Saturday night in IRC, you party animal you
17:05 <Steven_Zhang> lol
17:05 <jayvdb> with a pram

17:06 <Graham87> hi all
17:06 <Steven_Zhang> you know me, im a hardcore party animal.
17:06 <Steven_Zhang> lol
17:07 <Steven_Zhang> so...should we discuss fdc?
17:07 <lankiveilmob> Hi Graham
17:07 <Steven_Zhang> as an initial topic
17:08 <jayvdb> ok, well the big news is that we wont be requesting funding from FDC. Two reasons. 1. we found out that if we apply for funding in round 2, we ccould not apply for round 1 next time. We found this out only very recently. this has a very large impact as it means we needed to put forward a 12 month plan from June-July, whereas our Annual Plan was a calendar year
17:09 <jayvdb> the second reasons was that the organisation has written up the concepts agreed upon in the January F2F meeting.
17:10 <jayvdb> we were supposed to have a revised annual plan to the members in mid Feb, and that hasnt been done yet.
17:11 <lankiveilmob> :-/
17:11 <jayvdb> The good news is that we can apply for a grant from the Wikimedia Foundation, to fill the gap between now and the next FDC round 1
17:12 <Anthonyhcole> F2F?
17:12 <Steven_Zhang> a lot has come up that has made it hard to get in time
17:12 <jayvdb> face-to-face
17:12 <Steven_Zhang> facw to face
17:13 -!- Peter_ [~chatzilla@...iinet.net.au] has joined #wikimedia-au
17:14 <Steven_Zhang> mind if i chime in here john?
17:14 <jayvdb> the other piece of good news was that the ALIA conference went well, and the World War I GLAM concept is looking like it will be successful
17:14 <jayvdb> i.e. http://www.wikimedia.org.au/wiki/Proposal:WWI_WiR
17:15 <jayvdb> sure Steven
17:15 -!- Kerry [9587912c@gateway/web/freenode/ip...] has joined #wikimedia-au
17:15 -!- Kerry [9587912c@gateway/web/freenode/ip...] has quit [Client Quit]
17:16 <jayvdb> We have about 16 applicants, and about 10 GLAMs from across most of the country are 'keen'
17:16 -!- Kerry [9587912c@gateway/web/freenode/ip...] has joined #wikimedia-au
17:16 <Steven_Zhang> re: grants - i was at the WMF office last week and had a chat to the relevant folk about a potential application, because traditionally large grants (like we would have asked for) arent within the norms of the grants process
17:17 <Steven_Zhang> its normally below the 10k mark
17:17 <Steven_Zhang> after the chat i had, we have a better idea on what we can/cant use the money for, and how much we can seek
17:18 <Steven_Zhang> so the sky wont be falling due to us not progressing with rnd 2
17:18 <Steven_Zhang> :)
17:19 <Steven_Zhang> we as a committee have a plan going forward
17:19 <Steven_Zhang> </input>
17:19 <Steven_Zhang> (theres not many here is there?)
17:20 <Steven_Zhang> hm
17:21 <lankiveilmob> The Steve
17:22 <lankiveilmob> Erm, thx
17:22 <Peter_> and me listening...well watching
17:25 <jayvdb> How did your workshop go Peter_ ?
17:25 <Peter_> I think it went pretty well
17:26 <Steven_Zhang> oh yeah how was that?
17:26 <jayvdb> https://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_training_day,_Bendigo_Victoria
17:26 <Peter_> We got through everything on the plan and quite a few of the participants have continued editing since then
17:27 <Peter_> The group was very interested and did not need to be sold on the benefits. Leigh had done a good job beforehand
17:29 <jayvdb> there are four unaffiliated people in the Participants section; were they all health professionals
17:30 <jayvdb> ?
17:31 <Peter_> Bendigo Community Health
17:31 -!- Lankiveil [~Lankiveil@....tpgi.com.au] has joined #wikimedia-au
17:31 <Peter_> there were a couple of podiatrists
17:32 <Lankiveil> got sick of tapping out responses on my phone :)
17:32 <Peter_> there are some disgusting toe images on Commons
17:33 <Steven_Zhang> of all the disgusting images in commons....
17:33 <Lankiveil> there are lots of gross medical images on there
17:33 <Steven_Zhang> Lankiveil, i dont have a choice, laptop is at home :(
17:33 <Peter_> I'd nvere want to be a podiatrist
17:33 <Steven_Zhang> and gross non-medical images
17:34 <Lankiveil> well yes, but the medical ones are the worst in my opinion :(
17:35 <Lankiveil> this is why I don't do workshops with medical folk
17:35 <Lankiveil> the subject matter makes me too queasy
17:36 <Peter_> we had a few laughs
17:37 <Peter_> Leigh is keen to set up a few more
17:37 <Anthonyhcole> Will you be doing more medically-oriented workshops, Peter?
17:37 <jayvdb> Anthonyhcole: would you be able to run one in Perth if given similar support from WMAu?
17:38 <jayvdb> Leigh might be keen to go to Perth to help
17:39 <Peter_> He had it all set up, I could just walk in and start talking
17:39 -!- Steven_Zhang [~Steven_Zh@wikimedia/Steven-Zhang] has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
17:39 <Anthonyhcole> I was thinking I'd like to attend a couple before taking on one myself. I'd be happy to travel east.
17:40 <Lankiveil> I think it's best for people to attend at least one as a "helper" before taking the lead themselves
17:40 <jayvdb> Anthonyhcole: could you attend http://www.wikimedia.org.au/wiki/Proposal:2013_Wikimedia_in_higher_education_symposium ?
17:42 -!- Steven_Zhang [~Steven_Zh@wikimedia/Steven-Zhang] has joined #wikimedia-au
17:42 <jayvdb> 5 April
17:44 <Anthonyhcole> Yes, I can make that. (Doc James, who has done a lot of medical outreach at WHO, NIHS, and many campuses has said he'd love to do a tour downunder.)
17:44 -!- Shudde [3cf0f28e@gateway/web/freenode/ip....] has joined #wikimedia-au
17:47 <jayvdb> the registration link is here http://sydney.edu.au/arts/teaching_learning/writing_hub/events.shtml
17:48 <jayvdb> ignore the 'registration closes 28 March'
17:48 <Anthonyhcole> Great. I'll sign up. I should point out I'm in the board of http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WikiProject_Med and James is our chair.
17:48 <jayvdb> I dont see where they are accepting requests for travel assistance
17:49 <Kerry> Think only on the Wu proposal
17:50 <Kerry> WMAU
17:50 <Steven_Zhang> hi kerry
17:50 <Anthonyhcole> I'd appreciate travel assistabce, but can make it on my own if that's not an option.
17:50 <Kerry> Already used my 6 ours keyboard use today
17:51 <jayvdb> I guess people seeking travel assistance should just email frances.dilauro@sydney.edu.au and cc: kerry.raymond@gmail.com ;-)
17:51 <Anthonyhcole> Cool.
17:51 <Kerry> Yes
17:52 <Lankiveil> hi Kerry, please don't overdo your keyboard use on our account
17:52 <Kerry> Cheating on the iPad  :-(
17:53 -!- Steven_Zhang [~Steven_Zh@wikimedia/Steven-Zhang] has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
17:54 <jayvdb> recently this proposal was updated to reflect the committee decision in January : http://www.wikimedia.org.au/wiki/Proposal:Wikimedia_Australia_Meetups
17:54 <jayvdb> feedback would be good
17:55 -!- Steven_Zhang [~Steven_Zh@wikimedia/Steven-Zhang] has joined #wikimedia-au
17:56 <Steven_Zhang> i feel so disconnected from technology
17:57 <Lankiveil> when do you get back to Australia, Steve?
17:58 <jayvdb> Complementing that, at the January board meeting we also thought it would be good to continue face-to-face board meetings, but that it needed to have extra value, so a rough proposal to have the board go to different locations each quarter is put forward: http://www.wikimedia.org.au//wiki/User:John_Vandenberg/Quarterly_board_meetings
17:58 <Steven_Zhang> arrive march 6:
17:58 <Steven_Zhang> ive had bad access to data and no wifi in hawaii
17:59 <Steven_Zhang> made things difficult :/
18:01 <Steven_Zhang> but the proposal makes sense
18:03 <jayvdb> Another decision at the January meeting was to start using a contracting model. The following is the rough concept but some aspects, like the makeup of outsourcing committee, were never discussed: http://www.wikimedia.org.au//wiki/User:John_Vandenberg/Contracting
18:05 -!- Steven_Zhang [~Steven_Zh@wikimedia/Steven-Zhang] has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
