  • (NSW) 2023 July 11, TuesdayUnderstanding Wikimedia As A Digital Media Platform: Research Seminar/workshop — The University of Sydney Law School Camperdown, NSW 2006 Australia
As a digital platform, Wikimedia projects play a powerful role in the information and media ecosystem, from providing breaking news coverage to data points in Google infoboxes. Wikimedia projects include various types of automation and contribute to the automation of information provided by other platforms and are also being impacted by the regulations attempting to control big tech. There are therefore many areas of overlap with ADM+S areas of interest which could provide a range of fascinating research projects or collaborations which this workshop hopes to foster. Join us for a lunchtime seminar/workshop on researching Wikimedia as a Digital Platform. The session will include lightning talks of 5-10 minutes on current or future research projects, questions, ideas or issues followed by open discussion and input from colleagues and for developing new proposals or collaborations. Speakers may share a paper or concept at various stages of gestation. Lunch will be provided. This event is being hosted as a 2023 ADM+S Symposium Satellite event. • (NSW) 2022 November 18, FridayESEAP Conference 2022 — UTS Aerial Function Centre
ESEAP Conference 2022 is a regional conference for Wikimedia communities throughout the ESEAP region. ESEAP stands for East, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific. Taking place in Sydney, Australia on 18-20 November 2022, this is the second regional conference for these Wikimedia communities. East and Southeast Asia and the Pacific is a developing region within the Wikimedia community. There is a significant number of Wikimedia contributors across the regions, and we have grown the community since our first meeting in 2018 and continue to work towards establishing a well-managed hub. This conference will bring participants from various ESEAP communities together to strengthen collaboration and better understand the issues faced in the region and to look for solutions. ESEAP will be hosting Wikimania 2023, the first in-person Wikimania post-Covid. Following on from the last Wikimania in 2020, this conference will also bring the Core Organising Team for Wikimania 2023 together to help design Wikimania for the post COVID and climate impacted world. Our last ESEAP regional meeting was hosted by Wikimedia Indonesia in Bali in 2018, and a successful ESEAP Strategy Summit was held in Bangkok in June 2019. A lot has changed since then so we aim to re-connect people of the Wikimedia movement within the ESEAP region, to share ideas, and to build regional collaborations.
