This page is a proposal being developed by our members.  The proposal was moved by John Vandenberg and seconded by Steven Zhang. If you are not a member of the organisation, you may request an account on this wiki using special:RequestAccount, and discuss this proposal on the discussion page.

This is a proposal to allow members to optimise the use of their userspace on the Wikimedia Australia wiki.

Background

Members are already employing their userspace for various purposes; however, there is no policy specifically regarding this, and the proposals policy technically prevents proposals being drafted in userspace.

Userspace policy

The following text will be the "userspace policy" for the organisation's wiki:

Creating pages

Users may create pages in their own userspace. Any user may discuss these pages on the associated "user talk" page.

Each page must begin with a note that clearly indicates that the contents of the page are the responsibility of the person in whose userspace it is located, and describes how the page relates to the purposes of the organisation. Templates such as {{proposal}} and {{userpage}} will be provided for common userspace usages.

Editing pages

Any user may edit pages in the userspace of another user, however they should generally edit it only in the manner intended by the creator.

Deleting pages

Sysops may delete pages in userspace (and associated talk pages).

Where possible and appropriate, the sysops should attempt to engage (preferably on-wiki) the currently financial members that have contributed to the page and its talk page.

If a member believes a page in someone else's userspace is in conflict with the organisations Statement of Purpose, they should request deletion on the talk page with jusstification, and alert the sysops. Blanking a page in someone else's userspace is not recommended, and should only be considered if the sysops do not respond at all within an appropriate time period.

Proposals process

The proposals policy currently says "Before a proposal can be created on the public website of Wikimedia Australia ...".

This should be amended to say "Before a proposal may be placed in the "Proposal" namespace on the public website of Wikimedia Australia ...".

Old pages in mainspace

These are a few proposals in mainspace that were part of the organisation's strategy, but did not proceed for various reasons, and should be moved into the proposals namespace and marked as inactive.

There were pages created in "mainspace" before the proposals process that were primarily the work of a single person and are more appropriate in userspace, or should be moved to the proposals namespace if there are still two members who wish to develop and promote the concept. The redirects in mainspace should be deleted.
