Edit-a-thons

Looking to hold an edit-a-thon? Not sure where to start?

An edit-a-thon can take many forms, but essentially it is an event where groups of new or experienced people get together to learn how to edit Wikipedia together, either face-to-face or online. Sometimes these events are based around a theme (like increasing the number of articles about women on Wikipedia) or a target (10 new Wikipedia pages).

If you're thinking of holding an edit-a-thon, here's some things to get you started!

Get in touch! Wikimedia Australia is here to help. We have a network of experienced facilitators to offer training and support at edit-a-thons. We can also help promote your event. Email us at: contact@wikimedia.org.au

Training

There are many training modules available including:

The Wiki-GLAMR Training Program

There are so many opportunities for galleries. libraries, archives, museums and record management (GLAMR) to grow their impact through Wikipedia and other Wikimedia platforms.

Wikimedia Australia has developed a special four-part training program for GLAMR organisations in our region. We can either offer this training to your staff or your can download the following resources and either undertake the training yourself or guide your team.

  • Module 1 - An introduction to the Wikimedia Movement
  • Module 2 - How Wikipedia Works
  • Module 3 - Organisational Wikipedia Strategy
  • Module 4 - An introduction to Wikidata

Access the training resources and read more about the full program here.
