Wikimedia Australia is an independent regional chapter of the Wikimedia Foundation.

Mission

Wikimedia Australia supports the mission of the Wikimedia Foundation, to empower and engage people around the world to collect and develop educational content under a free license or in the public domain, and to disseminate it effectively and globally.

Purpose

• To grow and promote the development and sharing of free knowledge through open source software systems
• To develop educational resources to grow participation in Wikimedia platforms and projects
• To increase public awareness and support for Wikimedia platforms and projects

Strategic Priorities

Engagement	Grow public understanding of the Wikimedia movement, platform and guiding principles
	Deepen international engagement with the Oceania Wikimedia community with the Wikimedia Foundation and other affiliates
	Represent and promote the voices, needs, interests and priorities of the Oceania region
Equity and Inclusion	Cultivate a welcoming, safe, inclusive environment throughout all Wikimedia Australia programs through strong leadership and policies (in line with Universal Code of Conduct)
	Promote equity and inclusion across the Wikimedia platforms and programs in Australia by growing self-determined opportunities with First Nations peoples in Australia
	Promote equity and inclusion across the Wikimedia platforms and programs in Australia expanding participation and representation across Australia’s geographic regions
	Promote equity and inclusion across the Wikimedia platforms and programs in Australia improving demographic diversity to ensure a sustainable movement
Capacity Building	Grow a skilled, active and engaged community of contributors, trainers and leaders who understand the Wikimedia movement, platforms and guiding principles
	Develop a methodology for understanding and measuring regional community outputs
	Operate sustainably: Diversify funding to grow capacity and opportunities Develop governance capacity and capabilities Operate in an environmentally responsible way
