Wikipedia has information on a large range of Australian topics, including Australian historic figures

The Wikimedia Foundation, Wikimedia Australia's parent organisation, is a not-for-profit organisation which hosts and supports a range of projects that contain information about Australia and Australians. Some of these projects include: Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, Wikisource, Wikibooks and Wikinews, as well as projects in 266 languages. Wikimedia Australia shares and supports the Wikimedia Foundation's goals but does not manage these projects and is not responsible for their content. Volunteers editing from all over the world contribute the material hosted on the Wikimedia projects and we encourage our members and supporters to have a look and consider joining Wikimedia's mission to support the production of free content.

The English edition of Wikipedia contains more than three million articles and is one of the top ten most-visited websites in the world. It offers encyclopedia articles on a large range of Australian topics, including many major historical figures in Australian politics and culture. Australian volunteers and supporters of Australian content maintain several workgroups such as Australian politics, Australian law and Australian history which allow Australian contributors to meet and work together in maintaining various collections of information and multimedia files - there are plenty more and if you wish to participate, the groups are always welcoming of new users and contributors (especially if you have good source material!)

As an example of Australian work on Wikipedia, you can view here a collection featuring detailed information on every single Prime Minister of Australia - with thanks to Mark Hurd for collating this into a printable 'book' which you can download and keep for free :-)
