The Record Is Going To Geelong
Since launching The Record, our Australian music editathon events, we have added almost 50 new pages to Wikipedia. These have covered record labels, defunct music magazines, bands across all genres, and people from all across Australia.
Now, as part of the Surround Sounds arts festival in Geelong, Wikimedia Australia will be running an in-person event on Saturday 30 April 2022 at Geelong Library & Heritage Centre.
This will be our first in-person editathon as part of The Record project since it launched last December, and we're excited to have the chance to visit Geelong and help celebrate their musical history.
Bands and musicians such as Magic Dirt, Chrissy Amphlett, and Jeff Lang all originated from Geelong, but while they all have Wikipedia pages there's still more to add.
Joining us will be Maree Robertson, author of Bored! This Was Geelong, a massive book on Geelong's music scene. Maree will talk us through the creation of her book to get us inspired before we start editing.
We'll then work through a shortlist of Geelong related pages which are either missing from Wikipedia or could be expanded and improved.
Training will be provided, and no experience is necessary. Just bring a laptop, and don't forget to sign up for a Wikipedia account beforehand if you haven't already.
