Did you know only 19% of biographies on Wikipedia are about women and a mere 9% of Wikipedia contributors identify as female? Research has shown Women in STEM are particularly underrepresented compared to male counterparts. Time to take some action!
University of New South Wales and Wikimedia Australia brought together a team of volunteers to create profiles on Wikipedia to highlight the achievements of women in STEM and help reduce the bias in content online.
2021's event also featured a Q&A panel featuring Australia's Chief Scientist Dr Cathy Foley, Education Manager at Sydney Quantum Academy Dr Eser Zerenturk, and Researcher for the Centre of Marine Science and Innovation Dr Steph Gardener.
