Hi, my name is Andrew Owens.

I'm based in Perth and am most active on English Wikipedia, although I also participate at Commons and Wikisource. I hope to be able to help out in WA especially with the education sector where I have an interest.

Background

I have a Bachelor of Science in Business Information Systems from Murdoch University and a Certificate IV of Training and Assessment from West Coast Institute of Training, and am currently completing a Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) and Bachelor of Science (Mathematics and Statistics). I worked for most of my 20s in the IT sector (both public and private) in service and support, with diversions into media, risk management and training, before deciding to go back to full time study and become a teacher. In addition to my responsibilities at Wikimedia Australia, I am also a committee member at the Mathematics Association of WA (MAWA) which supports maths teachers throughout the state.

Committee

I was elected for a second term as a General Member of the Wikimedia Australia Committee in September 2010. Prior to the 2010 AGM, I wrote a candidate statement which sums up both what I see as the issues facing us and what needs to be done about them. I am happy to hear from members and volunteers alike, so please contact me if you have any questions, suggestions or concerns. My email address is aowens-at-wikimedia.org.au (orderinchaos78-at-gmail.com also works, and ends up at the same place.)
