How to contribute your ideas and suggestions

Background

The Strategic Planning group, a sub-committee of the WMAu Committee, is currently developing a strategic plan for Wikimedia Australia. We are seeking input from our members, friends of WMAu, and community stakeholders. An initial Strategic Planning Subcommittee workshop on the 16th and 17th July will deliberate over these issues including submissions received up to 15th July.

Who We Are

Wikimedia Australia, Inc.® is an independent, not-for-profit organisation, whose primary aim is to promote equality of opportunity to access and participate in the collaborative creation of Free Cultural Works, especially educational works, and works about Australia, its culture, natural environment, and Australian news and media. See our Statement of Purpose & Rules.

Wikimedia Australia is recognised by the Wikimedia Foundation as an official chapter and as such will offer members an official voice in the global Wikimedia community, whose aim is to create the sum of all human knowledge, freely available in your own language.

The purpose of Wikimedia Australia is to:

  • organise and participate in educational and social events that promote development of Free Cultural Works and related open source software systems, in particular wikis
  • increase public awareness, support and participation in the projects hosted by the Wikimedia Foundation (WMF)
  • develop resources to assist Australians in the creation and maintenance of Free Cultural Works

Note: Wikimedia Australia and the Wikimedia Foundation have no relationship with WikiLeaks, formally or informally. For more information please see "What's in a name" from the official Wikimedia Foundation blog.

What we do

The Wikimedia Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation which hosts and supports a range of projects that contain information about Australia and Australians. Some of these projects include: Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, Wikisource, Wikibooks and Wikinews, as well as projects in 266 languages.

Wikimedia Australia shares and supports the Wikimedia Foundation's goals but does not manage these projects and is not responsible for their content. Volunteers editing from all over the world contribute the material hosted on the Wikimedia projects and we encourage our members and supporters to have a look and consider joining Wikimedia's mission to support the production of free content.
