Summary

Description
English: A hand-appliqued Egyptian khayamiya tent panel made by the tentmakers of Cairo. These brightly coloured cotton-on-canvas appliqued textiles were joined to create tents for public and private events, primarily in Egypt. Large tent pavilions (suradeq) are typically made from repeating rectangular modular units (siwan), but square panels like this are also used when needed. Khayamiya are also made as textile artworks closely related to quilts.
