Gnangarra 23:07, 3 December 2012 (EST) :Not sure; perhaps some types of monuments. But I wonder whether regional towns have monuments such as town halls (some of them magnificent), court houses, railway stations. And would a register of Indigenous places be admissible? I don't know whether such a register exists, but I suspect the "monuments wouldn't all be in cities. Tony1 23:56, 3 December 2012 (EST) ::The Townsville regional council has 1223 items in their local heritage register, so I imagine someone in Townsville would be kept busy! The quality and accessibility of local registers seems to vary wildly though, Moreton Bay (where I spent a lot of time growing up) doesn't seem to have their local one online at all. YMMV I suppose. Lankiveil 21:27, 6 December 2012 (EST). == Online Heritage Registers == I've spent a bit of time tonight looking about for pre-existing lists of monuments that could form the basis of a list for WLM. The best place I found was here: http://www.heritage.gov.au/ahpi/index.html Unfortunately the site is a bit primitive, but pretty much everything seems to be there (except the ACT heritage register which always seems to return a blank). The problems are you can only view a handful of records at a time, and there's a pretty hilariously restrictive copyright notice over the whole thing which might make it impossible to use (better hope they don't see us as a "site that is not in the public interest"!) Some local governments are quite forward looking and have snazzy tools available to search for local heritage sites. Some that I've found are: * Townsville * Brisbane * Gympie Again, most of the time these are tied up in copyright. Not being a laywer, I don't know if that would stop us using a list of these properties as the basis for our competition. Lankiveil 21:38, 6 December 2012 (EST). :They cant copyright data, the purpose of the list is to make these sites identifiable.
