Art Gallery of South Australia
In 2025, Wikimedia Australia partnered with the Art Gallery of South Australia (AGSA) to assist AGSA Gallery Guides in conducting in-depth research on artists featured in the collection. Our collaboration focuses on editing and updating Wikipedia articles related to these artists. Additionally, we have organised public edit-a-thons to encourage community engagement with current exhibitions and their corresponding Wikipedia pages.
Dangerously Modern: Australian Women Artists in Europe 1890-1940

Wikimedia Australia (WMAU) and the Art Gallery of South Australia (AGSA) hosted an edit-a-thon in June 2025 as part of its current exhibition Dangerously Modern: Australian Women Artists in Europe 1890–1940.
The event brought together 20 enthusiastic participants to learn how to edit Wikipedia and improve coverage of women artists represented in the exhibition. With guidance from WMAU staff the participants added information and references, to help ensure these notable women artists receive the recognition they deserve online. WMAU will also work specifically with the AGSA Gallery Guides who have undertaken additional research on each of the artists, to edit and update articles.
The exhibition Dangerously Modern celebrates a bold generation of women who embraced modernity in both life and art at the turn of the 20th century. The edit-a-thon attendees contributed to a more balanced and inclusive digital record of art history.
Thank you to everyone who joined us - and a special thanks to our wonderful volunteers who helped prepare lists and materials, as well as the AGSA team for their support and collaboration. We look forward to the next edit-a-thon at AGSA in August!
