In early December, a passionate group of 35 individuals gathered at Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne for a Women in Biomechanics Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon. This event aimed to honour the pioneering women who have made significant contributions to biomechanics while enriching the information available on one of the world's largest online encyclopedias, Wikipedia.

Seasoned editors and newcomers added an impressive 5,290 words to various Wikipedia articles. This effort highlights women's achievements in science and ensures that their legacies are recognised in a space that reaches millions worldwide.

The edit-a-thon was facilitated by Wikimedia Australia staff member Alice, whose guidance and enthusiasm helped steer the event. We were also fortunate to have the support of seasoned mentors from Wikimedia Australia: Peter, Pru, and Alex. Their invaluable experience and insights provided participants with the tools and knowledge needed to contribute effectively.

As we reflect on the success of this event, it’s important to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of everyone involved. Each edit, each word added, represents a step toward amplifying women's voices in science and making their stories more accessible to the public.
