Gender equity on Wikipedia forms part of new NGA plan
Wikimedia Australia's groundbreaking partnership with the National Gallery of Australia on its Know My Name campaign now forms part of its new Gender Equity Plan 2022-2025, released today on International Women's Day.
The Action Plan outlines a commitment to:
- Accelerate gender equity
- Advocate for sector wide collaboration
- Strengthen organisational culture
- Empower participation
- Amplify data for equity
It also sets inclusive targets of 40 per cent women, 40 per cent men and 20 per cent diverse gender representation across all aspects of its operations including future acquisitions, commissions, exhibitions, collection displays and floor space, learning programmes, touring, publishing and marketing.
Featured in the plan is Wikimedia Australia's partnership with the National Gallery of Australia, to see more than 100 new pages created about Australian women artists through national simultaneous edit-a-thons with Araluen Art Centre, Lawrence Wilson Gallery, Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, National Gallery of Victoria, State Library of New South Wales and Queensland Art Gallery & Gallery of Modern Art.
The partnership has also included volunteer training workshops, the establishment of the National Gallery Volunteer Wiki Club, and staff information and training sessions.
