I, Brian Salter-Duke, have been editing wikipedia for quite a time, and turning up at meetups in Melbourne when I could. I have been involved with Wikimedia Australia Inc. since it started.
I was Public Officer of Wikimedia Australia Inc. from incorporation until the end of November, 2011. From January 2009 to the 2009 AGM, and from May, 2010 to the 2010 AGM in September, I was Treasurer.
As Public Officer, I was responsible for submitting the application for incorporation, and I was generally the point of contact between the Victorian Department of Consumer Affairs and Wikimedia Australia Inc. The role involved submitting the annual reports to the Victorian Department of Consumer Affairs. I have also been responsible for seeking approval for fund raising from those States and Territories that require it (and, perhaps more importantly, determining that some States and Territories do not require us to seek approval), and reporting to them as required. In the end we had to obtain approval from Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and Tasmania. The new Public Officer is the Secretary, Anne Frazer and she is also responsible for fundraising approval and reporting.
I was born in the UK and have a M.A. and D. Phil in Chemistry from the University of Oxford. I am a retired academic having worked in chemistry departments in universities in four countries finishing at was then the Northern Territory University, now Charles Darwin University, in 2001. I now have an adjunct position at Monash University in Medicinal Chemistry on the Parkville Campus. My specialty is computational chemistry which can use a lot of computer resources trying to solve the Schrödinger equation for molecules. I am the co-author of one program, but use programs from several other researchers. I first programmed a computer over 50 years ago.
