Wikidata turns 13!

Join us to celebrate Wikidata's 13th birthday!
, Ali Smith.

Wikidata was created with the vision of providing a central storage for structured data that can be used across all its Wikimedia sister projects, like Wikipedia, Wikivoyage, Wiktionary, Wikisource, and others. Launched in 2012, this remarkable project has grown into an essential resource for data sharing and retrieval, supporting not only Wikipedia, but other applications and services globally.

This year for Wikidata's 13th birthday, Wikimedia communities around the globe are organising birthday meetups, workshops, edit-a-thons, livestreams, hackathons, and much more!

Wikidata Events in Australia

Join Wikimedia Australia online at our October Drop in and Wikidata, to help celebrate 13 years of Wikidata – the free and open knowledge base that powers Wikipedia and so many other tools around the world.

Whether you're a seasoned Wikidata editor or starting out, we'd love you to join the conversation. Share what you've learned, showcase what you're working on, and pick up tips and tricks from the community.

Or why not attend WikidataCon 2025, an online conference to bring the International Wikidata community together. WikidataCon will take place between October 31 - November 02, 2025.

🎂 This is not just a birthday party, it’s a chance to connect, learn, and contribute!

Wikimedia Australia hosts a drop-in for Wikidata on the last Thursday of the month.
