Craig Franklin Award 2024
Wikimedia Australia is proud to announce the winner of the Craig Franklin Award for 2024 is Linda Pascal.
This award recognises a project or program that has made a positive impact on the Wikimedia movement in Australia over the past year. It honours Craig Franklin, a generous and prolific Australian Wikipedian, who died in 2018. This award celebrates his achievements and dedication to the free knowledge movement in Australia.
Craig was a founding member of Wikimedia Australia, and served as President and Treasurer. He ran Wikimedia events in Brisbane and developed Wikimedia Australia’s relationship with the State Library of Queensland that remains strong to this day.
We are grateful for his work as a passionate advocate for Wikimedia platforms. Through this award we hope to honour Craig Franklin’s work, and the work that is currently being done across the Australian Wikimedian community.
Linda Pascal has contributed remotely and in person as an editor and researcher with two major Wikimedia Australia partnerships and projects, ‘Know My Name’ and the ‘Australian Women in Religion’ with the University of Divinity.
Linda has been a volunteer contributor to the ‘Know my Name’ project with the National Gallery of Australia since 2020. She researches and creates lists of women artists for multiple events each year. Linda also volunteers with the NGA Research Library and Archives on a regular basis
She is also a strong contributor to the ‘Australian Women in Religion’ project with the University of Divinity and contributed beyond her short-term role as a Wikimedian-in-Residence with them.
Recently Linda assisted Wikimedia Australia in facilitating a Franklin Women edit-a-thon in Canberra and is always a helpful point of call for advice and support from staff.
Linda regards her work in Wikipedia as revealing the women who have always been there in the history of art or religion.
The Craig Franklin Award recognises Linda’s efforts and the contributions she is making to open knowledge and increasing the representation of women on Wikimedia Projects!
