Proposal talk:2013 Wikimedia in higher education symposium

This proposal is a great idea and I would certainly apply to attend if it comes together. I will be using Wikipedia again as a central aspect of my Research Methods in the Digital Age course I teach at UQ in second semester this year so for me it would be great to meet with other teachers who also see the value in incorporating Wikipedia in contemporary teaching. --Kerry Kilner 10:57, 24 January 2013 (EST)

I've notified 113 Usyd people (students or staff, past or present) so far. 89 by direct email that didnt bounce, 24 by emails via Wikimedia special:emailuser function (no way to know if they bounced), and I have another 24 people yet to contact (probably by user_talk). Most, but not everyone in w:Category:Wikipedians by alma mater: University of Sydney have been notified yet - I'll do a set of user talk notices by bot soon. Relevant blog post

Sweden has recently set up a Wikipedia education program that seems broadly similar to the one we're trying to start in Australia. This blog post about it, by Sophie Österberg, the education manager of Wikimedia Sweden, is a very interesting read. Graham87 21:36, 15 February 2013 (EST)

meetings

hi all, just flicked a similar note to the mailing list, but I'm wondering if any public meetings might've been setup yet? I'll check back here and on email :-) Privatemusings 11:40, 11 March 2013 (EST)

Wikimedia Education Program

We've got to wean off Wikipedia-centrism and encourage educational institutions to engage more fully in the ecology of the sister projects. Instead of the Wikipedia Education Program, IMHO we need to be looking at a Wikimedia Education Program. Sincerely, James Jtneill 22:16, 20 March 2013 (EST)

Symposium home page

Can we move/fork the symposium home page to some place which is quicker/easier to edit using SUL WMF accounts? e.g., Wikiversity Happy to help, but don't want to step on any toes... Jtneill 23:31, 20 March 2013 (EST)

I'm not sure that this proposal page really is the 'homepage' - I think this is more a specific requirement of wmau to access some money - it's more paperwork and planning is my impression - there's also this page over on en - but again, I don't think it's really a 'homepage' - I haven't in fact seen any sort of planning / discussion / agenda / schedule type page, and I'm not sure there's going to be one - personally, I'd suggest popping any ideas / notes onto the en wiki talk page, but that's just my thought :-) Privatemusings 13:03, 22 March 2013 (EST)
Thanks, that has helped me understand the purpose of this page. I've forked the generic content to here: http://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Wikimedia_in_higher_education/2013/University_of_Sydney Jtneill 23:52, 25 March 2013 (EST)
