Talk:2013 Annual Plan
USyd project revised heavily
Note that the USyd linkage has been replaced with a symposium @ USyd. The cause is primarily that it took a long time for us to find a suitable partner investigator for this project, as the rules are very prohibitive, and we've been overrun by events a bit. The project is still the same, with the same amount of WMAU funding, but we wont receive co-contribution from the Australian Government. The USyd academic is planning to organise in-kind support (facilities and human resources) from USyd in order for the project to proceed. John Vandenberg 21:46, 22 November 2012 (EST)
Semester 1 plan
As we received $0 from the FDC round 1, I have added to the plan an implementation that uses $75,000 of our $100,000 cash reserve during the first half of 2013 while we wait for the round 2 result. John Vandenberg 21:46, 22 November 2012 (EST)
unfunded proposals
Are there any funding requests before the current committee that have not been included in the current budget Gnangarra 23:17, 23 November 2012 (EST)
- Hi. Yes, there are a few, in various stages of readiness.
- You were involved with one request that was sent to the committee. The committee responded with questions, which have not been answered. However the committee also noted that the proposal had been seconded by a member and according to the proposals process it could be published on the wiki in order to move to the next step. We're waiting for answers, or for the proposal to be published by the people who wrote it. It wasnt a proposal that the committee felt it could add to the plan in its current form.
- Members of the committee and members of the organisation have also written proposals that havent made it through the proposals process (yet). Some would need polishing before they could be funded; others were good. One was sent through in the last week. Our Annual Plan had allowed for these proposals to be refined, published and funded. Without FDC funding in the first round, it is unlikely that they could be funded in the first semester. However the people involved can push those proposals onto the wiki to be included in the second round of the FDC and be funded in the second half of 2013. - Its bloody difficult to have a reasonable discussion about the 2013 plan if you open with another snipe, for the record I know of two requests before the committee one is my request under the Proposal:Camera equipment program and another proposal that I'm not organising. As far as I know I had addressed all the committee request for the camera equipment grant and responded as such by 1 October. OK moving on your saying that all current requests before the committee havent any funding available and that theres no funding available for any member proposals before June 2013. Can you advise approxiamately how much the value of these request actually are so that we can consider that in conjunction with the plan that has been outlined. How many of these unfunded proposals will fail to materialise becaue of the delay in funding them. Gnangarra 00:18, 24 November 2012 (EST)
- Regarding your camera equipment program request, you did reply to the committee on 1 October saying that you had done some of the geocoding that the committee had requested. Unfortunately nobody on the committee has had time since then to review whether your uploads meet the criteria, but from what you say the committee shouldnt have any problem approving it. We should have made time in the October and November meetings. I am sorry. As you are aware, the committee has been under manned and this is an especially busy period of the year. Your request is part of the camera equipment program, which is funded. There is money in the July-December 2012 budget for it (planned expense no. 3: funding of already approved proposals), and that amount will carry over into the 2013 budget in the unlikely event that the committee doesnt approve your request in 2012. Note that there is also an allocation of $5,000 in the first semester under "Other programs" which would be used for unanticipated requests under the existing programs (small grants, camera equipment program, etc).
- I am not going to talk about proposals which are not published yet. That is "what if" scenarios. It is the responsibility of the authors to publish them after their proposal has been seconded. The committee members could have done more to help some of these proposals through the process. However the proposals process is designed so that members do not need the committee in order to push a proposal onto the committee agenda for approval, or even have it approved by the members. - It's a bit off topic, but I spot checked some of Gnangarra's images on Commons since the Oct 1 email and they all checked out. I don't see any reason why it shouldn't be approved. Lankiveil 23:13, 24 November 2012 (EST).
