First Nations Wikipedian in Residence

Wikimedia Australia and the State Library of Queensland have partnered to support a First Nations Wikipedian In Residence located in Brisbane, Queensland. This paid residency is open to any Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people, and will run for 11 days between May-June, to support improving First Nations music content on Wikimedia projects. Australian Women in Religion Project: Wikipedian In Residence

The Australian Women in Religion project are accepting applications for a Wikipedian In Residence to be based at Mannix Library, Catholic Theological College, University of Divinity, in East Melbourne. This is a paid opportunity and will contribute to their goal of creating 200 new Wikipedia articles by the end of this year. Applications close Friday 10 March. Full details here.

Wikidata Fellowships close this Sunday!

Got an idea for a Wikidata project? Whether it’s big or small, you should apply for our Wikidata Fellowships. Wikimedia Australia and Wikimedia Aotearoa New Zealand are offering three fellowships of $1,000. Applications close Sunday 26 February. The Record: How culturally diverse communities are using Wikipedia

Earlier this month, we hosted an online series of presentations showing how different cultures are preparing their histories for a digital space and using Wikimedia projects. This special event was open to First Nations organisations to show examples on how they could contribute to Wikimedia projects and take part in an open discussion. The recording is now available to watch online.


International Women's Day edit-a-thon - Saturday 4 March 10:30am

Discover the archive of the Women's Art Register, Australia's living archive of women's art practice, and learn how you can use the collective powers of editing Wikipedia to amplify the voices of Australian women artists. This free event is at Richmond Library, Saturday 4 March 2023, 10:30 am to 2:00 pm. Bookings here.

Know My Name: Wikipedia Edit-a-thon - Saturday 11 March, 1pm AEDT

Learn how to create and edit Wikipedia entries and help us increase information about Australian women artists on the world’s largest and most popular research tool. Wikimedia Australia and the National Gallery of Australia’s Research Library staff are running an interactive workshop where you will have the opportunity to work on Wikipedia entries of artists featured in the National Gallery’s Know My Name initiative.
