General meeting
An annual general meeting is held within five months of the end of the financial year (i.e. before December) in accordance with the Rules of Association and the relevant legislation, Section 30 of the Victorian Associations Incorporation Act 1981.[1]
The purpose of the AGM is to receive board reports from the secretary and treasurer, to receive a statement regarding the chapter's income and expenditure and assets and liabilities, to elect the new board (formerly the committee, and to confirm the minutes from the last AGM. During the week before the AGM, an election is held for all seats on the board. The results of this election are announced at the AGM and the new board is confirmed. Only financial members of Wikimedia Australia are eligible to nominate for seats on the board, vote in the election and participate in the AGM.
A special general meeting can be called by either the board or 5% of the membership.
